Located on 13 acres of land overlooking downtown Toronto, the De La Salle College “Oakland’s” is an independent, co-educational, university preparatory Catholic school. Named after its patron saint St. Jean-Baptist de La Salle, who was a French priest and founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. He is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church and the patron saint of teachers. He dedicated much of his life to the education of poor children in France and he is considered the founder of the first Catholic schools.
De La Salle College “Oakland’s” was founded by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and continues to be administered by them. The estate named “Oakland’s” named after the many oak trees in the area, was originally part of the Crown Lands deeded to Honourable John Elmsley in 1798.
