WEDDING MENU
Wedding Planning by en Ville Catering Toronto

In wedding planning, it is good to also include the kids in your plans. Kids are often overlooked by most couples. More focus is given to the adults. This is why in most weddings; the only provision for the kids’ menu is mini pizzas and chicken fingers. This might have worked in the ‘90s but things have changed. You will be amazed by how adventurous the kids are today when it comes to food. Most of the kids will be comfortable with the cuisines in the wedding menu maybe with the exception of raw seafood. Unless you want the kids to get in the way of the adults, you have to come up with a kids’ menu that is all-inclusive.

All in all, before you get started with the wedding catering plans, it is good to note that some kids do have allergies. You should, therefore, work on the menu with parental supervision. As you ask the guests about their food requirements, ask them to include the special dietary needs of their kids. This will help plan accordingly for the big event. You also have to consider placing ID cards by all your cocktail party menu items as well as carving stations. Here are some popular trends in the kids’ wedding menu.

Sushi

Kids do love sushi.  However, considering most parents want their kids to take cooked sushi, make sure that your caterer provides a display of the cooked items. The last thing you want is to order a lot of sushi that nobody wants to eat. Yes, the adults can take the raw sushi but most kids will be unwilling to do that.

Seafood

Don’t be afraid to add some seafood in the kids’ menu. Some great ideas are salmon cakes, crab cakes, cod cakes and lobster cakes. With this option, you need to add sizes that are big enough to be consumed in just two bites. Avoid the small balls. They can be hazardous for the kids. The last thing you want is for your wedding to be paused because some kids choked on the small balls.

Pasta

Kids love pasta. Add it to your kids’ menu. To make it more enjoyable, you need to serve it with creative or classic sauces.

Meatballs

Meatballs are best served with pasta. However, this does not mean you cannot serve them with other dishes. Kids do love meatballs so make them available.

Sliders

You can offer these as pulled pork or burgers. There have also been requests for the veggie burger sliders. Don’t be afraid to add them to the mix.

Macaroni and cheese

This is always a hit with the kids. Your menu needs to include this dish.

Other great dishes you can add to the kids’ menu include:

  • Hummus and pita bread
  • French fries
  • Chicken tenders
  • Mini pizzas
  • Crudités served with cooked vegetables
  • Fruits

To avoid holdups in the buffet area, it is good to set up a different station for the kids. You also need to note that presentation is everything when it comes to kids. Make everything fun.
